Sprouts on Ice

Whew! We made it through Christmas and New Years in one piece. Although there’s still snow on the ground, and planting season is still a couple of months away, I’m already chomping at the bit ordering seeds and starts preparing for the new season. To satisfy the growing bug, I did start sprouts in a Mason jar, and wrote an article for the Great Falls Tribune. It’s nice to have something green around here.
This week I’m working on a story for beginning beekeepers on what it takes to have a hive or two in the backyard. I spoke with David Braumbauer at Montana State University this week since he hosts a workshop at the end of the month for budding apiarists, and will chat with Dick from Western Bee in Polson hopefully on Monday.
On a recreational note, we’ve taken the kids over to the new Ice Plex here in Great Falls for a few hours of ice skating. What a kick! Grant has to hold John since he shouldn’t be on skates, yet, but I’m loving taking Sam around on the chair. He’s starting to shuffle with help, but it will take some time to become proficient. Our goal is to have him up and gliding by the end of the season.
