Planning for Garden Clean Up Time

Although it would be the easiest to simply chop up the spent garden plants, and work them into the soil it's not a very good idea. I talked about the reasons to clean up the garden to head off problems for next year, as well as a few ways to do it in this week's PlantersPlace entry.
We're going to have a fair amount of spent plants to haul away at our Park Place Garden for the River City Harvest community gardens. After we have a hard freeze, which could be next week or next month (please be next month!), we'll set up a time where everyone will clean out their plots and help load trucks to take to the landfill. Maybe next year we'll have plenty compost bins and the volunteers to handle all of it, but right now we don't have the resources to "cook" it hot enough for long enough.
